One of the most common questions from sellers listing on Trendyol: “Does the product photo background have to be white?” The short answer: Trendyol’s official guide says a white or light-colored background “should be preferred”; it isn’t written as a mandatory rule. But there are other rules that can get an image rejected, and they matter more than the background color. In this article we summarize the “Product Image Selection and Upload” guide in the Trendyol Seller Information Center. Rules can change; check the current text in your seller panel before uploading.
The official wording: “should be preferred”
The sentence in the guide’s “Image Requirements” section reads exactly: “A plain white or light-colored background should be preferred.” By this wording, a colored background or a scene photo is not in itself defined as a rule violation; still, the final assessment is Trendyol’s.
A white or light background is a safe choice in most categories, because it makes the other points in the same section easier to meet:
- The product should be photographed so that the whole product is clearly visible.
- The product should fill most of the image area.
- Only the variant being sold (color, model, size) should be shown.
- The photo should be sharp, clear and well lit.
- The main image should show the product straight on and plainly; other angles, size, package contents and in-use photos belong in the secondary images.
Technical requirements
- Format: JPEG, JPG, PNG or WEBP
- File size: at least 1 KB, at most 10 MB
- Resolution: at least 860×574 pixels, at most 2000×2000 pixels
Trendyol’s developer docs ask for 1200×1800-pixel, 96 dpi images when creating products through the integration. This size is within the range above, so the two don’t conflict. For size details, see our Trendyol product image size guide.
Images that aren’t accepted
The guide’s list of “Inappropriate Image Uses” includes:
- Low-resolution, blurry, dark or cropped images
- Images with excessive text
- Images with logos unrelated to the product or watermarks
- Over-edited or artificial-looking images
- Shipping, returns, promotion, price, discount or gift information on the image
- Images with products or accessories not included in the package (if used for clarity, it must be clearly stated that they aren’t included)
According to the guide, product creation and update requests can take up to 72 hours to review.
Hepsiburada is different
If you upload the same image to Hepsiburada, be careful: Hepsiburada’s official catalog guide says “The image background must be white or a light color”, so there a white or light background is written as a requirement. If you sell on both marketplaces, a white or light background is the common option that meets both rules. Details: Hepsiburada product image rules.
8-point checklist before uploading
- Is the whole product in frame, with no edges cut off?
- Does the product fill most of the frame?
- Is the main image plain and shot straight on?
- Is only the color/variant being sold visible?
- Is the image free of price, discount, shipping or “gift” text?
- Is it free of logos or watermarks unrelated to the product?
- Is it between 860×574 and 2000×2000 pixels, with the file under 10 MB?
- Is the format JPG, PNG or WEBP?
How do you get a white background?
Background removal tools can put a phone photo on a white background; the critical part is the edges. With hair, fur, glass and glossy products, automatic tools often leave a gray halo or cut-off edges. Afterwards, centering the product and leaving the same margin in every image keeps your storefront looking tidy. When changing the background, don’t change the product’s color, shape or label; the guide lists “artificial-looking” images among those not accepted.
